It is been a tiring 4 days trip to Sabah and all the way to the peak of Mt. Kinabalu. The trip to Mt. Kinabalu is nice and most people with good physical condition or some training would be able to climb to the peak.
Although we were abit worry about altitude sickness, which would hit even the fittest person.
First day we arrive at Sabah via Airasia, we we brought to pouring for hot spring and then breifing at Sutera Santuary Lodges which we stayed in a hostel. Day 2, we started at 9.00 from Timpohon Gate to Laban Rata (about 6.5km walk). Day 3, we started 2am towards the peak and back down to Laban Rata for Brunch, then at the same day we go back to Sutera Santuary Lodges and to Pacific Sutera hotel in Sabah.
Here is some preparation list which you would consider bringing before hiking Mt. Kinabalu:-
- Headlamp
- Backpack (another pair of clothes & socks for sleeping and hiking to the peak next morning)
- Jacket as it is real cold up on the peak
- Beanie
- Some Chocolate Bar and Powerbar – For food supply and energy.
- Walking stick (optional) – Useful to Laban rata but not advisable for hiking towards Low Peak
- Pouch which would fit a 500ml water, spare batteries and Powerbar.
- Glove is essential to go up to the peak because the rope and rocks are cold.
There is porter who will carry up your lauguage to the Laban Rata for RM6.60/kg (2 way).
I will compile some good picture to be uploaded very soon.
